The short version
We ask for a first name and an email address, and only when you request your reader profile. No payment details, no phone number, no address.
Your email is used to send your list and occasional reading recommendations. It is not sold, rented, or traded to anyone, for any price.
Some links pay us if you subscribe. That is stated under every one of them, and it never decides which books appear on a list.
Section 01
GetSimilarBooks.com is a book recommendation site. It matches a book you loved to five read-alikes chosen by hand. This policy covers everything at getsimilarbooks.com, including the blog.

Section 02
What you hand us. When you request your reader profile, the form takes a first name and an email address. That is the entire list. Answers you give in the questionnaire are used to build your recommendations.
What gets collected automatically. Like most sites, our hosting and analytics tools record technical data:
This is read in aggregate, to work out which recommendations people find useful. We do not build individual profiles from it.
What we never collect. Payment details, postal addresses, phone numbers, and any information from anyone we know to be under 13 years of age.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not use it for advertising targeting on other platforms.
Section 04
Email is sent through AWeber, which stores subscriber data on our behalf under its own privacy policy. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and one click removes you from all future sends, permanently.
You can also email us to be removed by hand. We do not require a reason and we do not send a follow-up asking you to reconsider.
Section 05
This site uses cookies for two purposes. The first is basic function, keeping the site working as you move between pages. The second is analytics, counting visits so we can see which recommendation pages are useful.
Affiliate partners may also set a cookie when you click one of their links. That is the mechanism that credits a referral to us, and it is how the site is funded.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Some parts of the site may behave differently afterwards, though the finder itself will keep working.
Section 06
GetSimilarBooks participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click an affiliate link on this site and then subscribe or buy, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
Commission does not decide which books appear on a recommendation list, or in what order they appear. Publishers and authors cannot pay for placement, and we do not accept payment to add a title to a list or to move one up.
Where a link is commercial, a disclosure sits directly underneath it, so you know before you click rather than after.
Section 07
A small number of outside services keep this site running. Each processes data under its own privacy policy, and we share only what the service needs in order to work:
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we link to. Once you leave getsimilarbooks.com, the policy of the destination site applies.
Section 08
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email the address above and we will act on the request.
Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have specific rights under the GDPR, and residents of California have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what is collected and the right to request deletion. We honor those requests regardless of where you are, because keeping two standards would be more work than keeping one.
Section 09
Subscriber data is kept for as long as you stay on the list. If you unsubscribe, your address is suppressed so we cannot email you again, and it is removed on request.
The site runs over HTTPS and subscriber data sits with our email provider rather than on this server. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, only that we do not hold more than we need.

Book titles, series names, cover designs, author names, and company names referenced on this site are the property of their respective rights holders. They appear here for identification and editorial commentary only, and their use does not imply any endorsement of this site by them.
Section 11
If this policy changes we will update this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy. Material changes affecting subscribers will also be sent by email.
